Siargao is home to beautiful beaches and islands that is sure to make any wanderlust drool. Naked Island, Guyam Island, Daku Island, the Magpupungkod Rock Pool and Sugba Lagoon are just some of the scenic spots and natural wonders that Siargao offers. This quaint province in Mindanao has been gaining vast popularity among tourists.
Now here's another reason to visit Siargao. Achieve that dream 'racecation' and join the Siargao International Marathon on July 23, 2017.
RUN FOR THE MANGROVES
On the way to Sugba Lagoon, one passes through the Del Carmen Mangroves. This mangrove forest is the 2nd largest in the country and is home to 27 out of the 70 species in the world. Sadly, vast tracks of mangroves are being illegally cut for charcoal.
It is in this light , thru the leadership of Del Carmen Mayor Alfredo Matugas Coro, that a mangrove rehabilitation program was started and hopes to be maintained thru the launch of the first Siargao International Marathon, This event also aims to promote the beautiful island of Siargao as a place for sports and eco tourism.
There will be two categories: 21KM and 42KM. It is open to participants from all over the world ages 18 and above. There's a registration fee of Php 1,400 for the 21KM Run and Php 1,800 for the 42KM run. Online registration is ongoing until July 16, 2017. Check www.runrio.com/siargaomarathon2017.
Race kit includes singlet and race bib with D-tag. Post race: Loot bags with sponsors freebies and drinks, finishers medal and shirt and a pledge of mangrove seedling.
