Funny Names and Nicknames

Our name or nicknames make a personality. Agree? I have a very simple name-Allan. And sometimes I wish I had a different name. Allan's so common-there are a millions of us sharing this name. In fact, we're like 5 Allan's in our family- all with the same last name too!

I remember when I was in 2nd grade, we were asked to tell the history of our name- kung bakit daw yun ang ipinangalan sa amin ng parents namen. TOINKS! Problema yan. I know there really is no BIG reason for giving me that name--yung tipong trip lang ng mama ko. During that time, ALLAN CAIDIC was a big name in the PBA. But I dont think my name was drawn from him, I mean, I was already born before he made a name. As it was an assignment, I immediately asked my mom about the history of my name- and of course, she has nothing major to say. While my classmates' names were drawn from saints or famous personality or really just unique names, mine was nothing extraordinary-- Allan was the best name my mom can think of--para din daw di ako mahirapan isulat sa papel pag nag-Kinder na. Umpf! As if naman I can tell my Language teacher that my name was given to me para daw di ako mahirapan isulat ito sa papel. If that's the case, sana pala 'A' na lang ang binigay saken. No effort. A lang. (TRIVIA: I had a previous student whose name is A CABE-- para nga daw madalig isulat sa papel. Di kaya magka-anak ang nanay ko at nanay nya? Pareho sila mag-isip e!)

On one site, I learned that the meaning of ALLAN is-Harmony, stone or noble. Also, handsome and fair.Originally a saint's name,it remained a popular name in the Middle Ages. Aba, winner naman pala! Hahaha! My mom, didn't know this for sure. :)

FUNNY NAMES and NICKNAMES

We, Pinoys can be the worst in giving names and nicknames. My dad's name is Salvador-nice name, right? But his siblings and relatives call him "BADONG". Although, he managed to change that and now he is called "BUDDY". My mom's name is "JULINA" and she's called naman as "PANGGING" by her siblings. Eeeelk! Di maganda, Julie na lang- that's what we call her.

Back in the 80's most girls have "MARIA" on their names. Ma. Theresa, Ma. Carmela, Ma. Conrada, Ma. Cristina, Ma. Mirasol. A decade ago, most girls have "May" or "Mae" on their names. So when I was still a preschool teacher, during the roll call, I'd say: Bernadette May, Clarrisa Mae, Theresa May, Angelina May, Rita Mae, Patricia May--everyone's have MAY on their names.Hilarious!

I have a cousin who is ILUMINADO Jr.- and we call him Kuya Unyo. Well, on his wedding day- he changed it to Jay-r. My officemate's name is ELISEO Jr.Others are Primitivo Jr. or Igmido Jr. I dont get it really! May scarcity ba ng name at wala ng ibang maisip? O yung iba diyan e wala ng maisip talagang pangalan kaya may 'the third' at 'the fourth pa'!

I recently browsed an applicant whose name is MARVELOUS- and yes he is a guy! I can just imagine how he was during the first day of school and we all introduce ourselves to the class- Hi classmates-Im Marvelous!

Charing, Esing, Buknoy, Utoy, Totoy, Neneng, Loloy, Intoy, Tikang, Mering, Paking, Potpot, Chukoy, Buknoy, Kaka..

Mas nakakaloka yung may mga palayaw na ganito:
Bidek, Bikek, Biek, Baluga, Ulikba, Impakto, Putol, Luga, Tulok, Bardagol..

I have a teacher in elementary whose name is ERNA SIOJO ( Erna in gay linggo is 'tae' and syoho is mabaho). So can you just imagine how stinky her name is, hahaha! My friend once had a teacher whose last name is PRUKE. One time, her classmate forgot her name and called her Miss PrekPrek!

And how about these names?
1.Lucky T. Tino
2. Mary Christmas Aguinaldo

6.Honeygirl Pulot-Pukyutan
