Conquering Mt. Pinatubo

I have always wanted to trek Mt. Pinatubo. Finally, last Saturday, it was a 'check' on my bucket list.

We departed at 3.30am in Makati. We were in Capas, Tarlac a little after six in the morning. We took a quick breakfast in a fast food chain and then off we went to start our Mt. Pinatubo adventure.

The tour started with a 4 x 4 off road adventure from the base camp.

It was bumpy and sandy..

Along the road was the magnificent view of lahar canyon..

Crow Valley

After the 4 x 4 ride, our trek began. The sun was unbearable, but I'm okay with it. It's not everyday that we get a chance to commune with the nature. The swooshing and the gushing of the streams along the way were calming..

We passed by sandy cliffs and rocky paths. There were also herd of carabaos and local Aetas along the road.  After an hour, we arrived at this area:

It was another 20 minutes walk-well, that is if your aged, to the crater. I did it in 15 minutes! (palakpakan!)

The 2 hour trek dried my throat and challenged every centimeter of my bones and muscles. It felt victorious to finally see this:

Some more steps and finally, I had the view of the magnificent Mt. Pinatubo crater!

Aint this breathtaking? Pristine blue green waters! The view was definitely worth all the 'pagod'.

Tid Bits:

1. You'll get roasted by the scorching sun so make sure you cover yourself with sun protection.

2. Bring at least 2 liters of water. It is best to hydrate or experience heat stroke. :) Also, make sure you have some sweets to munch.

3. Travel light. Your lipstick and foundation won't be necessary since sand and dust will cover your face and body.

4. Wear the proper footwear. I'd recommend trekking sandals. You may wear your rubber shoes, that is, if you're OK to dip it in waters.

5. No need to bring swim wear. Swimming has been prohibited since last year.

6. There's no cellphone signal at the place.

You've been warned:

It was a tiring trek but it was fun. The sandy cliffs, the small streams, the birds flying above your heads, the relaxing view of the crater-everything were majestic!

Yes, I finally conquered Pinatubo!
