Cheers and glee filled the Misamis Occidental Provincial Athletic Complex (MOPAC) Grounds in Oroquieta as contingents compete in the 1st Perangat Festival Dance Showdown and Ritual Presentation.

Yours truly was honored to have been invited to witness this joyous event and experience the hospitality and warmth of the Misamisnon people and discover the untamed expanse of their beaches, waterfalls and scenic mountains. I will be sharing more of that on a separate blog.

Perangat Festival is a celebration in honor of the province's bountiful harvest and showcases its traditions and attractions. Formerly known as 'Pasungko', they changed the festival name to 'Perangat' , a subanen of Muasenso or Progress. Asenso Misamis Occidental is the brand of the current administration under the leadership of Gov. Henry Oaminal.

The Perangat Festival centers on the Subanen culture, tradition, progress and thanksgiving. 10 contingents from the different cities and municipalities featured costumes, props, musicality and dance highlighting the rich Subanen way of life.
