Know What's Your Poison at the Newest Tiki Bar in Poblacion Makati

A lot of bars have popped in Poblacion. Indeed, it has become one of the go-to places to those who wanted to dine or spend the night over some booze after a hard day's work. I recently visited WYP Bar, the newest tiki bar in the area.

Tucked in the quiet street of Manalac Street in Poblacion, Makati, one would hardly notice WYP Bar during the day. It's a different thing as crepuscular light sets in- prepare to feast on their menu or dance the night away and try their cocktails.

CHOW DOWN

WYP Bar, an acronym for What's Your Poison,  offers lot of drinks and cocktails that is sure to paint the town red but don't skip their food menu- theirs are a delight to anyone's taste buds.

We started with the Quattro Fromaggio Flatbread (PHP 350). Bread and cheese will always be comforting and satisfying. How can you go wrong with this combination? I even thought it's a roll pizza when it landed on our table- but yeah, roll it or eat it as it is, devour every crumb!

I like my steak smoky and their Hanger Steak (PHP 425) was perfect! It is grilled, giving it that smoky flavor (others opt for a pan-sear and it's also good) and served with creamy mash and spiced corn. I bet you will lick your plate clean with this dish.

If there's anything you should not miss at WYP Bar, it's the Billionaire's Bacon (PHP 155) and Pok Pok Wings (PHP 245). I always say one doesn't need to have a love life when you have bacon. If you frequent my blog, you probably know how I'm a big fan of buffalo wings.  The Billionaire's Bacon is a baked bacon slab enlivened with Palawan honey. Yes, you read it right- it's a bacon slab. NOT. A. BACON. STRIP. The PokPok Wings is an interesting take on buffalo wings. It's a little spicy and really savory. Believe me, I can finish them all alone. It was food for the gods, we begged for more rice!

Great partners for your booze are the SPAM Fries (PHP 245) and the Cuban Corn (PHP 145). The crispy spam chips are served with fries so it's the perfect 'pulutan'. It was my first time to try a Cuban Corn - the chef shared you can find this only at WYP bar. It's a bowl of Cuban Corn with some secret spices and a slice of lime. It's a common dish done uncommonly well, and yes, it did not disappoint.

You can also try their Cheeseburger Sliders and Fries (PHP 180) and Garlic Shrimp Pesto. Both are mouth-watering and appetizing too.

WHAT'S YOUR POISON?

We only tried 2 signatures during my visit at WYP Bar. We sipped the Filipino Summer (PHP 380) and the WYP Delight ( PHP 450). The first was a concoction of infused vodka, lime wedge, white sugar, basil leaves and contreau; the latter is a combination of gin, midori, simple syrup and kiwi fruit.

If you're a lover of the spirit, they have less than 20 classic cocktails and 4 other signature cocktails. Or grab a beer- a bottle of San Miguel light costs only PHP 75. Can't do alcohol? Try their fresh fruit juice. I highly recommend the lemonade and dalandan.

THE MENU

THE VIBE

What is a tiki bar without the tiki masks and palm trunks? The Onyx Bar is my favorite spot - from the bar seats, guests can have an epic view of live action from their bartenders. The hanging lamps definitely sets the mood.

I also like that the place isn't that big- a perfect place to snuggle with your partner or just spend an awesome night with friends or colleagues.

If you happen to be looking for an ideal place to have working lunch, then look no further. WYP Bar is quieter during the afternoon and is a great place for client meetings or a small group gathering over good food.
