Monty Python's Spamalot Review

It has been a long time since I watched a musical comedy that made me laugh from start to end. Last weekend, I had a chance to join the Monty Python’s Spamalot media launching at Maybank Performing Arts Theater, BGC Arts Center. I did not regret swapping a college reunion to this Tony/Grammy/Drama Desk Award-winning live theater show. A spoof of King Arthur and his knights quest to find the Holy Grail, Monty Python’s Spamalot is must-see for those who has read the novel and movie about this legendary British King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

I have no doubt why Monty Python’s Spamalot show is Tony Award for Best Musical because it was described as "resplendently silly" by New York Times, "laugh like they haven't laughed in ages" by Broadway World and “a rollicking good time" by ABS-CBN news.

Just so you know,  Monty Python’s Spamalot is entirely different from the book that glorifies Arthur as a mighty king. However, it guarantees to see the witty sides of the king’s life. The acting of the actors and actresses are beyond superb (they act, dance and sing!). The fact that they keep sane all throughout the play while they deliver their horrendous and funny lines is already unbelievable. Featuring gowns exclusively designed by internationally-acclaimed fashion designer Francis Libiran, Monty Python’s Spamalot is that one show you’ll be treated with a whole package of good voice, never-ending laughter, good-looking characters and a heart that realizes what really is a Holy Grail.

I don’t want to spoil too much about this show but what I can assure you is that you’ll leave the show feeling light because it’s undoubtedly entertaining. Bring a handkerchief or tissue paper with you because tears will fall from your cheeks … from laughing! I do wish though I can share the actual photos of the play but like other theater shows, taking images during the show is prohibited.

The show’s actors and actresses (in alphabetical order) are Roxy Aldiosa, Rachel Alejandro, Reb Atadero, Rachel Coates, Domi Espejo, Rhenwyn Gabalonzo, Carla Guevara-Laforteza, Lorenz Martinez, Noel Rayos, Bibo Reyes, Dean Rosen, George Schulze and Chino Veguillas. It is directed by Joel Trinidad and Nicky Trivino. Musical direction by Onyl Torres. Choreography by the Martinez Sisters.

Monty Python’s Spamalot  will perform 10 times every Friday (9pm), Saturday (3pm & 8pm) and Sunday (3pm & 8pm) at Maybank Performing Arts Theater, BGC Arts Center. You’ll have no excuse you’re too busy to laugh and give yourself an entertaining show out of that ten chances!

You can buy your tickets via Ticketworld. The cheapest is Php 700 and the most expensive is only Php 2, 000. If you are a group of 20 watching the show, there’s a 20% off and 10% off to the rest on April 22 at 8pm.
