5 Things You Should Know About Sinalco

This cute, pink can has always intrigued me every time I see it at the convenience store. Is it a brand of beer? A soda? Flavored water? Finally, I had an answer when I had the chance to taste it in an event that I previously attended. Sinalco is a soft drink brand. It's been recently introduced in the Ph market.

Here are the list of 5 things that you should know about Sinalco.

1. IT'S A GERMAN BRAND.

Sinalco is the oldest soft drink brand in Europe. It was first marketed in 1902. It is produced by Sinalco International, a company headquartered at Duisburg, Germany. And even if it has been around for over a hundred years, it has kept its unique taste.

2. WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Personally, I thought Sinalco sounded like another medicine brand. Neither does it sound 'too German' for me. Well, there's a reason behind the name.

Before it was Sinalco, it was popularly known as 'Bilz-Brauze' (Bilz- Lemonade). It was developed by the dedicated naturopath Friedrich Eduard Bilz and the beverage expert Franz Hartmann. It was the first non-alcoholic international brand in Europe and was a huge success. In 1902 alone, it sold a total of 3 million litres. At least 60,000 bottles are sold during the summer of 1904 in Berlin alone.

It has become massive and popular that copycat products have been appearing. It is in this light that they had a contest of coming up with a catchier name. And then came SINALCO- inspired by the Latin 'sine alcohole' or 'without alcohol' in English.

3. Euro Interbev Corporation is the exclusive seller of Sinalco in the Philippines.

Pinoys are now enjoying this new soda brand because of Mr. Ely Enrique and his partners-the people behind Euro Interbev Corporation. They were granted the official license to exclusively sell the products in our country.

4. SINALCO COLA AND SINALCO SPECIAL

I'm a big caffeine addict and when I want to deal away with coffee, I guzzle soda instead. Well, yeah, not all the time. Recently, I have tried the Sinalco Cola and Sinalco Special. I have been cutting sweet intakes lately but it was hard to resist the temptation of a soda swill.

Both have a unique taste that's really new on my tongue.  The Sinalco Cola is a lemonade with an extra kick of caffeine.

The Sinalco Special, true to its name, was special! It doesn't taste like the usual soft drinks we have been accustomed with. It is composed of a fruit mix- orange, lemon, strawberry and raspberry. TBH, I thought it almost tasted like a sparkling wine for me. I'm in love!
