The Reasons Why I Seldom Watch Pinoy Teleserye Nowadays

Philippine drama (also known as teleseryeteledrama, and P-drama) is a television form of melodramatic serialized fiction. It is rooted from two words: "tele," which is short for "television," and "serye," a Tagalog term for "series" and "drama" for drama.

Soap operas in the Philippines originated when Gulong ng Palad was first heard on the radio in 1949. The genre then expanded into television in the early 1960s. The first Philippine TV soap opera was Hiwaga sa Bahay na Bato in 1963, and was produced by ABS-CBN

In the 1990s, television dramas boosted many careers of many but long-running dramas were the ones that stood out due to its popularity. From 1992–1997, the ABS-CBN drama Mara Clara gained major popularity due to the intense rivalry between Judy Ann Santos as the protagonist Mara and villain Gladys Reyes as the evil Clara. The series was one of the longest-running soaps of the 1990s despite many time changes and also moving to the Primetime slot at 7pm. source

And the numbers of produced teleserye went on.

OK. Im a certified couch potato back in the day and yes, I'm one of the many Pinoys who got hooked watching Pinoy Teleseryes. The past 3 or 4 years, this habit declined. I'd check and take a peek from time to time but not really to make 'subaybay'.. I just want to know if there's something new.

Bakit naumay na akong manood ng Pinoy Teleserye?

1. It's always about switched babies or multiple births. And yes, dapat ampon si bida.

2. It's always about revenge. Mahirap si bida. Eventually yayaman sya at babalikan nya ang lahat ng nagpahirap sa kanya.

3. It's always about acquiring wealth. Endless agawan ng kayamanan.

4. It always involve love triangle. ALWAYS.

5. It's always about mermaids. Or flying creatures.

6. A character would die if the producers want to pull them out of the show.

7. You know it's the end of the show when a car bumps into one of the characters or the villain went insane.

I wonder what happened to the think-tanks of our TV Networks. Honestly, di na naka-move on ang  mga plot ng teleserye natin sa story ng Mara Clara.  I got tired watching the same old stories. Also, sometimes I dont see the point of doing all these remakes when I feel our writers can come up with fresher ideas.

I have to give credit to the shows who were a little aggressive in coming up with something new. I think the viewing public deserve more.

I long for the day when our prime time viewing will really be at its finest.

Well, this is just me and my opinion. :)
